About
Project Phetchabun is a bi-annual short-term mission trip in partnership with RADION International. Since 2015, we have brought teams of healthcare professionals and students to Phetchabun, Thailand, to provide medical access & education to the Hmong tribe. We are a key supporter of RADION's long-term community development work in the region.
The Hmong have been severely marginalized following the events during the Vietnam war. Today, many are left without healthcare, education and citizenship. It is a joy for us to serve them with the skills we are privileged to have.

What We Do
Health Screening
- We carry out health screening in schools to identify treatable conditions and support early intervention. This includes visual impairments, dental problems, motor abnormalities, heart or lung problems, acute infections, signs of domestic abuse and learning difficulties.
- Regular medical checks for young children are not offered to some Hmong who lack a national ID, and the national screening service is overloaded.
- Mobile clinics are held in several villages including Khek Noi (RADION compound)
- We have capacity to dispense acute medications and treat common conditions. The feasibility and cost of time and resource in visiting the closest hospital is a significant barrier in seeking treatment for many villagers,
- We refer patients to secondary or tertiary services when needed. Our detailed referral ensures that patients are seen to and alleviates the burden on the heavily strained government healthcare facilities.
- We attend to house-bound villagers to provide medical checkups and deliver acute medications when appropriate. These are patients who are too unwell or cannot be supported to attend the hospital in the city.
- Education against substance abuse and smoking, both significant social issues affecting children as young as 6 years old
- Recognition and response to medical emergencies
- Gender-specific hygiene
- Hand hygiene
- Dental hygiene
- Recognition and response to domestic abuse
- Basic life support
- First aid
- Food and essential items are distributed to vulnerable households.

Testimonials
I had the privilege of leading Project Phetchabun 2025 after my first trip in 2024. Stepping into this leadership role deepened my understanding of what it truly means to serve with humility. Although I arrived with the intention of serving the local community, I instead found myself being cared for by them. Their generosity and attentiveness became a powerful reminder that humility lies not only in giving, but also in receiving. |
Leading Project Phetchabun with HealthEx was a meaningful experience that broadened my perspective on medicine. Organising and running clinics in a rural Thai community provided valuable exposure to rural healthcare, which was very different from my experiences in Singapore. Beyond delivering care, the project emphasised the importance of empathy, connection, and understanding patients in their social context. As project leader, planning the clinics and overseeing the team helped me appreciate that good healthcare is not just about medical treatment, but about presence, compassion, and genuine care for the community. |

Project Phetchabun Covid
Due to COVID-19, although we could not go to Phetchabun in 2020, we decided to collaborate with AWARE Singapore to help women facing increased domestic abuse during lockdown. We aimed to raise awareness regarding women’s health and rights in Singapore through infographics and fundraisers.
Through our bake sale and collaborative fitness classes, we managed to raise a total of SGD $12 000 for AWARE Singapore. This the highest amount any non-business entity has raised for the NGO!
