Frequently asked questions |
Who can join these trips?
Anyone with a willing heart to serve the underprivileged community! Although our trips have traditionally been run by medical students, other allied health students and dentists have joined us in recent years and have been a huge help. We are also always on the lookout for qualified doctors and dentists to supervise our trips.
How many participants will there be on the trip?
For medical trips, teams usually consist of 20 individuals (max): 2 trip leaders, 2 certified doctors, 16 participants.
For dental trips, teams are much smaller with around 6-7 participants and 1 dentist.
Do I have to be based in Singapore to go on a trip?
No. We welcome volunteers from Malaysia, Vietnam, Australia and even Ireland! Some of the pre-trip preparation involves meeting up in Singapore, so we only ask that you try to attend those.
In the event that a project applies for a Singaporean grant for funding, criteria may limit non-Singaporeans/PRs from receiving grant funding.
When do these trips run?
Summer trips take place during July and August. Project Phetchabun X Duke-NUS trips run in the last 2 weeks of December.
What will I be doing on the trip?
This can vary from trip to trip, but in general we focus on conducting health screenings, mobile clinics and health education in villages. One of our goals is equipping and empowering students to lead healthcare expeditions, so every participant will have an active role in planning for the trip.
How much does a trip cost?
Our trips to Cambodia and Thailand typically cost around 600+ SGD. In order to keep our trips accessible to everyone, we try to cap the cost of our trips at 800 SGD. This figure includes flights, food, accommodation and transport, and is covered solely by the participant. For other costs such as medications, medical equipment and health education materials, we encourage participants to fundraise the amount needed.
How else can I help besides participating in the trip?
We greatly appreciate any kind of help, from volunteering on our trips to donating money or supplies. If you would like to help us financially or be a sponsor, please refer to the “donate” page for more information.
